Static Planes are non-controllable aircraft used as scenery, historically populating airports like Francis International and Escobar International in GTA III-era games with parked business jets based on the Learjet 35. Decorative aircraft of this kind are among the content catalogued for Grand Theft Auto VI.
Vice City airport sighting
In a clip from the September 2022 GTA VI leaks, a static airliner was visible at a distance on the apron at Vice City International Airport, in the Vice City region. It carried Air Herler markings matching the version used in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.
That leak footage is the stated GTA VI evidence. No mission use, interior, movement, purchasable version, manufacturer, price, or player controls are identified for the GTA VI aircraft.
Air Herler design lineage
The Air Herler plane seen in Vice City follows the larger static-aircraft design used in GTA V and Online. That earlier model combined features associated with two real narrow-body airliners: the Boeing 737 supplied the fuselage, nose, cockpit glazing, nose gear, and wingtip devices, while the Airbus A320 informed the tail fin and the engine nacelles.
A separate, more detailed aircraft used during Bury the Hatchet resembled a Boeing 767 more closely. Its FlyUS-painted version had a modelled passenger cabin and sharper exterior textures than the ordinary airport props. The Online introduction also used a detailed FlyUS example.
Earlier airport jet forms
The earliest airport examples in Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City were parked executive jets at Francis International Airport and Escobar International Airport. Their shape drew on the Learjet 35. Grand Theft Auto Advance used several passenger aircraft, business jets, and monoplanes at Francis International to stand in for the airport scenery aircraft of GTA III.
Advance also gave one business jet a story role: Colombian Cartel leader Cisco owned it, and Mike escaped Liberty City aboard it in the final Freedom Flies cutscene. Liberty City Stories later featured a Learjet 35-like aircraft in Love on the Run.
Vice City Stories used a related jet with a substantially broader fuselage and wings. Blue striping distinguished it, and it appeared in Soldier, Snitch Hitch, and Farewell To Arms. It belonged to the dealer met by Victor Vance in Soldier; later, Vance escorted it from Escobar International as it departed in Farewell To Arms.
Ogham and Ghawar counterparts
Grand Theft Auto IV replaced the older airport-jet appearance with updated Ogham jets parked at Francis International. Kenny Petrovic used one during the Hangman's NOOSE multiplayer mission. Chinatown Wars opened with Huang Lee arriving in Liberty City aboard an Ogham in Yu Jian, then retained parked Oghams at Francis International for the rest of the game.
In Chinatown Wars, Oghams could be seen leaving and approaching runways, but did not taxi or travel away from them. The Ballad of Gay Tony identified Ray Bulgarin's private business aircraft as a Ghawar. Its Bang Bang mission is the sole stated instance of an Ogham moving, when the objective was to destroy it before departure.
Airport liveries and quirks
At Los Santos International Airport in GTA V and Online, the large static aircraft appeared in Adios Airlines, Caipira Airways, and Air Herler paint schemes. An Adios Airlines example stood a few gates from a Shamal. Air Herler examples appeared near runway 3/21, including one beside two Jets.
The FlyUS aircraft in Bury the Hatchet had an unusually old-looking cabin despite its contemporary exterior. Yellowed ceiling and wall panels, green striped wallpaper, and bright blue seats produced a 1960s-style airline interior. Its tail also left the “US” portion of the FlyUS marking short of the tail's full area, unlike the larger Jet. Approaching a static plane triggered an engine sound distinct from that of other aircraft.
