Grenade Launcher
Heavy Weapons Shrewsbury (GTA V & GTA Online)
The Grenade Launcher is a heavy weapon that appeared in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, manufactured in-fiction by Shrewsbury, and it is due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI, having reportedly been glimpsed in the game's second trailer. The weapon was also planned for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City but was cut before release, leaving behind only unused model and texture files. Its prior appearances depict it as a compact, semi-automatic launcher holding up to ten rounds.
Shown officially Rockstar has shown this in a trailer, the Extended Look, an official screenshot, artwork, or its own site.

GTA VI Footage Evidence
No trailer timestamp, screenshot location, promotional image, in-game region, handling detail, or specification for the Grand Theft Auto VI version is provided beyond its expected appearance. The available information therefore does not establish whether the earlier launcher’s model, ammunition capacity, attachments, or behaviour return in the new game.
Milkor MGL Design Basis
Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online model the weapon after the Milkor MGL revolving, multi-shot grenade launcher, specifically the short-barrel M-32A1/Mark 14 form. Its game model omits the real launcher’s adjustable OEG sight over the cylinder; a Picatinny rail occupies that position instead. It also uses a Magpul MOE-style collapsible carbine stock resembling the stock on the Pump Shotgun.
The launcher has rails along the top and on all four faces of its handguard, allowing attachments. It was the only heavy weapon stated to have this attachment-ready arrangement. Markings and ammunition labels identify its projectiles as 40 mm grenades, although its ten-round capacity exceeds the real MGL’s six-round cylinder.
Liberty City Predecessor
The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony used a different visual basis: the HK69A1. That single-shot version had a grey finish, an extended shoulder stock, a front sight post, a dual-aperture rear sight for shorter distances, and a folding ladder rear sight for longer shots.
In The Lost and Damned, its 40 mm grenades travelled farther than thrown grenades and had roughly the effectiveness of a Pipe Bomb, making vehicles and other cover suitable targets. They used a four-second timer, could be bounced from walls, and required the shooter to account for projectile drop. The player could carry 20 grenades, against the Rocket Launcher’s eight rockets, though the rocket weapon was easier to aim. The Ballad of Gay Tony reduced the timer to 2.5 seconds and added immediate explosions when a round struck a person or vehicle, allowing attacks on low-flying helicopters. Both Liberty City versions needed a reload after every shot.
V and Online Handling
The V-era launcher holds and fires as many as ten grenades before reloading. Rounds detonate immediately against people or vehicles; otherwise, they explode after about one second. Rather than requiring manual elevation for gravity, the weapon adjusts its firing arc toward targets inside the reticle and within range. It is also suited to low helicopters. On solid scenery, grenades tend to remain where they land instead of ricocheting as extensively as earlier versions. Muzzle velocity is given as 40 m/s, or 144 km/h and 89.5 mph.
Trevor receives it during Trevor Philips Industries, after which it becomes available from Ammu-Nation for $8,100. It can also be collected during his fourth Rampage, at the San Andreas Avenue bridge’s north-west arch, in Franklin’s purchasable Los Santos International Airport hangar, and at several underwater locations, including the sunken cargo plane after Minor Turbulence. A planned tear-gas version was removed before release. Its reload animation appears to discard a spent round and load only one replacement despite the weapon’s larger capacity.
Online Availability and Quirks
In Grand Theft Auto Online, Ammu-Nation unlocks the launcher at Rank 60 for $32,400. It appears in Survival from wave six onward, in the bunker shooting-range alcove after all Tier 2 Gunrunning challenges, and on a desk on B5 of a player’s Nightclub. Death removes ten grenades from the player’s supply.
A cover-blind-fire bug can raise the firing rate to roughly 150 rounds per minute by repeatedly clicking the left mouse button rather than holding it. Repeated melee strikes with the launcher against a vehicle can also cause an unexplained explosion; the required number of blows varies with the vehicle and its condition. A vehicle-mounted form is fitted to the Dune FAV.
