Police Cruiser (interceptor)

The Interceptor has appeared in Grand Theft Auto VI material wearing several departmental markings. Footage from September 2022 showed it in Port Gellhorn Police Department colours in every clip where the vehicle was visible, placing that version in the Port Gellhorn region. Those early recordings retained a model closely related to the GTA V car.

The first GTA VI trailer later showed Vice City Police Department and Vice-Dale Police Department examples. Both use a white body, but the Vice City car carries blue striping while the Vice-Dale version uses green. Each has a roof lightbar displaying blue, white and red lamps. The trailers establish those two liveries, while the earlier Port Gellhorn appearance comes from the 2022 leaked footage rather than a trailer.

A close view in the second trailer revealed a substantially reworked version of the cruiser compared with the one seen in the 2022 footage. Its C-pillars, roof profile, mirrors and front fenders were altered, while the rear received the largest changes. The bumper became smoother, the diffuser was reduced in size, and the exhaust arrangement changed to single tips.

The rear lamps were replaced by vertically arranged units, with reverse lights positioned beneath them. The registration plate moved from the trunk to the bumper, and the Vapid emblem shifted to the middle of the trunk face. Additional rear lighting elements appear on the parcel shelf behind the back window. Earlier GTA VI close-ups also showed more fully modelled door panels and pillars, revised headlamp assemblies, and steel wheels with chrome Vapid-logo hub centres.

The GTA V and Online cruiser was chiefly modelled after the 2013–2019 Ford Police Interceptor Sedan, itself the police version of the facelifted sixth-generation Ford Taurus. Its GTA VI successor retains that principal Ford Police Interceptor Sedan basis, with front and rear styling brought closer to the real vehicle.

Other details of the older design drew from different cars. The headlamp housings and side POLICE markings resemble elements of the Carbon Motors E7 concept, while the tail lamps echo those of the 2008–2014 Ford Falcon FG. On the GTA VI redesign, the shape around the C-pillar trim appears to take inspiration from the quarter-window treatment of the ninth-generation Chevrolet Impala.

In GTA V and GTA Online, the cruiser used a black-and-white scheme, roof unit number, side POLICE lettering, black wheels with chrome centres shared with the FIB Buffalo, and a red-and-blue LED roof bar. A spotlight mounted beside the A-pillar operated with the high beams and could be knocked off in a crash. The cabin included weapon mounts on the console, radio equipment and a steel partition between the seating rows. Enhanced editions used a sedan interior shared with the Stanier, another Police Cruiser and the Fugitive; the original release instead included a police computer displaying an LCPD database screen.

Its four-cylinder engine drove the rear wheels through a five-speed transmission. Acceleration, braking and handling were described as good for a sedan, especially against the Stanier-based police model, but the car was less durable and readily deformed near its front wheels. It shared engine audio with the Buffalo and police Buffalo, and its siren audio was common to other LSPD vehicles. Entering one supplied a Pump Shotgun.

Unused modifications exist for the GTA V vehicle, including alternative hoods, front and rear bumpers, side skirts and push bars. Normal modification shops do not provide access to them because police vehicles generally cannot be modified there. Before the Heists update, Content Creator livery selection changed only the roof number; this option was removed afterward, and the standard number is 32.

The Online model has several recorded faults. Its rear Vapid badge partly passes through the trunk, and the enhanced-edition texture on a small part of the rear driver-side door leaves a section of the POLICE lettering absent. Missing inertia values in the collision mesh make it handle unusually lightly for its category. If its siren is distorted in multiplayer, distant players hear the ordinary siren until the vehicle is near them. In GTA V, killing its driver triggers a regular car horn rather than the normal police horn.
