The Albany Buccaneer is a two-door muscle coupe with appearances spanning Grand Theft Auto IV, V, and Online, and it is due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI. In-universe it trades on an organized-crime pedigree, and in Online it is eligible for lowrider customization at Benny's Original Motor Works.

Vice City trailer sighting

At 0:45 in the first GTA VI trailer, a white Buccaneer sits on the double-yellow lines near a Crosstown intersection in Vice City. It has a black vinyl roof, its driver’s door is open, and it is positioned behind a white Cypher and Dominator ASP. A customized lowrider-form Buccaneer is also visible elsewhere in that trailer. These trailer appearances confirm the model in the Vice City region; no performance or purchase information for its GTA VI version has been shown.

GTA V styling influences

The GTA V and GTA Online Buccaneer was redesigned around the 1963–1965 Buick Riviera, with the 1965 Riviera especially reflected in its vertically stacked headlamps. Its rear lamps and the dark panel between them draw from the 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. The first-generation Pontiac Grand Prix informed the headlamp and front-bumper treatment, while the grille recalls the 1966 Buick Riviera GS. Its vinyl-covered roof and hood have links to the 1967 Pontiac LeMans, and the ribbed chrome along the lower sides resembles that of a 1966 Ford Fairlane.

Earlier Liberty City forms

In GTA IV, the Buccaneer retained the broad 1970–1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo influence associated with its earlier San Andreas form, though its roof was less fastback-like and nearer to a third-generation Monte Carlo. Its nose combined 1971–1972 Chevrolet Caprice cues with a grille resembling a 1976 Monte Carlo; the rear also borrowed details associated with Cadillac, Lincoln, and Chrysler luxury cars. The Chinatown Wars version largely followed GTA IV’s design, but was shorter than the prior versions and used wide lamps that echoed GTA IV’s paired-light arrangement. GTA V then replaced that shape entirely, adopting an older personal-luxury look with a raised rear suspension and drag-car stance.

Class, engine and pace

Albany is the in-game manufacturer. In GTA V and GTA Online, the Buccaneer belongs to the Muscle class and uses the personal body category. Its two-tone finish places the main paint across the upper body and a secondary color below, while its standard wheels match the Dukes rim design in a darker shade. “440 GT” emblems indicate a suggested 440-cubic-inch, or 7.2-litre, V8. It reaches roughly 110 mph on the first-person speedometer, with 0–60 mph acceleration in about five seconds. The Dominator and Dukes are only slightly slower, while the Buccaneer’s braking is merely adequate. In enhanced GTA Online, its listed purchase price was $29,000.

Gang cars and oddities

GTA V assigned colored Buccaneers to several gangs: yellow-and-black examples for the Vagos in Rancho, purple-and-gold cars for the Ballas around Grove Street, and green-and-black versions for Families in Chamberlain Hills. Their modifications include a chin spoiler, de-chromed rear bumper, custom grille, vented hood, painted roof, competition suspension, Drag SPL Muscle wheels, and limousine tint. Separately, worn olive-green-and-lime examples with dark-green lower paint could appear at the El Burro Heights bus junkyard, usually at night. Armenian Mob members use accessible Buccaneers during the Special Cargo mission “Robbed Cargos.” In early GTA IV, entering one displayed the misspelling “Bucanneer,” despite correct spelling on its badging and in other text; Episodes from Liberty City corrected it. GTA IV’s Albany car also carried a Declasse logo on its steering wheel.
