Dinghy

The Dinghy is identified as due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI under Nagasaki. No GTA VI-specific trailer timestamp, screenshot, promotional image, region, crew, price, configuration, or gameplay use is provided. Its confirmed GTA VI information therefore does not establish whether the earlier boat’s equipment, seating, colours, or performance traits return.

In Grand Theft Auto IV, the Dinghy had a larger inflatable hull than earlier versions, with a broad deck layout. Its helm console carried a small windscreen, while four bucket seats had looped roll-over bars above them. At the stern were a flat transom, twin outboard motors, long aerials at the rear corners, and partial guards for the engines.

Three optional fittings could appear. One was a silver or chrome rail around the console and windscreen; another was a black forward frame carrying a radar dome and aerial; the third was a rear frame with its own dome, aerial, and non-functioning lamp. The GTA IV boat was available only in black.

Chinatown Wars blended the earlier 3D-era Dinghy styling with the GTA IV design. On Android and iOS, its appearance leaned more heavily toward the GTA IV version. The driver was also depicted standing behind the wheel.

Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online retained the GTA IV body, fittings, and optional equipment, then added two round lamps at the bow. The lamp attached to the optional rear frame became usable as a high-beam light. Enhanced editions gave the helm the analogue “Truck” instruments used by other boats.

Four colour combinations were available in GTA V and Online. The selected primary colour covered the hull and inflatable sections. The secondary colour applied to the console, dashboard frame, seat loops, deck joiners, rear frame, and the stern’s protective frames. A two-seat model is also referenced by Rockstar Games Social Club artwork: its 2019 main images were mistakenly assigned to the wrong Dinghy articles before being corrected.

The Dinghy uses two outboard engines. In GTA IV, it combined a respectable maximum speed with responsive turning, although its larger size made it less capable than the earlier 3D-era version. Its passenger capacity made it useful when attacking boats with allies aboard, but its protection was weaker than that of other boats. The engine audio sat at a middle rev range compared with most speedboats.

GTA V and Online retained those broad characteristics, with the newer handling model making it feel lighter and faster. It was suited to confined routes including the Vespucci Canals and Raton Canyon creek. During GTA V’s search for Submarine Pieces, it was temporarily fitted with sonar. Its engine note was quieter and slightly higher-revving than in GTA IV. Leaving the boat supplied the player with scuba gear in GTA V and Online.

In GTA IV, Dinghies could be found around Port Tudor in Alderney, beside a pontoon near Happiness Island, and across Liberty City’s waterways. They served as Niko and Packie’s escape transport in Waste Not Want Knots, pursued Niko and Phil during Catch the Wave, and carried Dimitri’s men during Buoys Ahoy. The Lost and Damned used one in Off Route, while Luis and Mori used one against hostile boats in The Ballad of Gay Tony mission Kibbutz Number One.

GTA V placed examples at Elysian Island’s drydocks, near the barge below Miriam Turner Overpass, southwest of the Post OP depot, south of the drydock island, and at the Sonar Collections Dock after Michael met Abigail. Enhanced GTA V also placed one at Puerto Del Sol Marina. A Dinghy could be taken shortly before Monkey Business by disrupting that mission; its mission version had its seat backs removed as an enabled extra.

Online missions assigned Dinghies to the Lost MC, Merryweather Security salvage personnel, import/export rivals, and player crews. They appeared in Method in the Madness, Cleanup Op, Coast Guard Duty, Half-track Bully, Offshore Assets, the Aircraft Carrier Business Battle, Assault on ATT-16, and The FIB Files. In The Black Box File finale, one chased the player after the black box was collected, with another appearing after passage below Calafia Bridge.
