The Canis Mesa is a four-door SUV from Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online, previously rendered as a two-door in an earlier era, and it is due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI. A red Mesa is seen driving along the Keys Causeway in an official screenshot of the Leonida Keys, and the design heavily resembles a Jeep Wrangler.
Real-World Design Basis
The Mesa takes most of its shape from the 2007–2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. Its four-door layout, compact dimensions, upright body and off-road character follow that model closely. The front end combines this Wrangler influence with cues from the UAZ-469, particularly around the fascia and grille.
Canis is the in-game manufacturer, and the vehicle is classified as an SUV with a Light Truck body type. Its square panels, raised stance and hard-wearing plastic trim frame it as a road-going utility vehicle with off-road styling rather than Canis’s more dedicated off-road counterpart.
Grand Theft Auto VI Evidence
The Mesa’s GTA VI appearance is confirmed by the previously described official Leonida Keys image. Beyond that sighting, no trailer timestamp, second screenshot, alternate paint colour, named variant, or additional Leonida location is identified.
Nothing described for GTA VI establishes whether the vehicle retains the mechanical behaviour, roof options, wheel choices or damage resistance associated with its GTA V and GTA Online form. Those details belong to the earlier version unless shown again.
Earlier-Game Availability
In Grand Theft Auto V, the Mesa was a relatively frequent sight in Los Santos, Blaine County and other rural areas. Listed locations included Korean Plaza, Two Hoots Falls in Tongva Valley, the Rebel Radio Building car park on Route 68 in the Grand Senora Desert, and Paleto Bay. One parked example stood by the Paleto Tattoo parlour curb on Duluoz Avenue.
GTA Online likewise placed Mesas commonly around Los Santos and Blaine County. Following the Smuggler’s Run update, colour examples could appear outside Fort Zancudo hangars 3499, 3497 and A2. The vehicle was selectable for both SUV and Off-Road races, including the Off-Road events Ridge Run and Eco Friendly. Los Santos Customs paid $3,000 for one.
Roof, Hatch and Wheels
Naturally spawned earlier Mesas could have either an open top or a black roof cover. The covered version carried a third brake lamp at the rear, but that lamp did not function. Its rear hatch also differed from a conventional upward-opening tailgate: it was hinged at the side and swung right when opened.
Only the primary paint channel was available, and that colour also changed the interior stitching. The factory rims used a pattern close to the Mudslinger off-road wheel sold through Los Santos Customs, although the Mesa’s wheel centres were larger and the surrounding bolts were more pronounced. A roofless Mesa had once been planned for purchase from Warstock Cache & Carry, based on unused website files, but that planned availability did not occur.
Earlier Driving Characteristics
For GTA V and GTA Online, the Mesa was described as having ordinary maximum speed but strong acceleration from its low weight. It used a front-mounted V6 and five-speed transmission in an all-wheel-drive layout, with torque split from 10 percent at the front to 90 percent at the rear. Full four-wheel drive, low weight and strong torque helped it climb steep terrain.
Its turning circle was broad, so moderate driving was advised. The earlier Mesa was also highly durable under collisions and gunfire before the engine failed. Once moving, it could carry enough momentum to push through obstructions and roadblocks, compared specifically with the larger Emperor.
